Oat-A-Coat is a concentrated, professional pet shampoo containing large quantities of colloidal oatmeal, along with skin protectants and high-affinity conditioning agents derived from milk proteins. Designed for its soothing mildness, Oat-A-Coat promotes healthy skin, and delivers all the dermatological benefits of colloidal oatmeal in an easy-to-rinse formula that cleans great and leaves a smooth after-feel on the skin.
For years, groomers and dermatologists have known that topical treatments of colloidal oatmeal benefit skin that has been damaged, abraded, or distressed. The colloidal oatmeal in Oat-A-Coat helps to relieve itching, aids in the healing process by mitigating further damage, and delivers moisture to irritated skin. In addition, Oat-A-Coat contains allantoin, a safe and effective skin protectant that stimulates new and healthy tissue growth by helping the petís skin to heal itself faster.
Not just for animals with sensitive skin, Oat-A-Coat can be used as an all-purpose shampoo because it effectively lifts soils and cuts excessive grease and oils from the hair without stripping the coat. Oat-A-Coat premium pet shampoo is biodegradable, contains no dyes or colorants, and has never been harmfully tested on animals. When used as directed, this shampoo is safe for all healthy dogs, cats, and horses over six weeks of age, and is an excellent addition to the skin care regimen of older animals. Oat-A-Coat is not a medicated shampoo, nor is it intended for the specific treatment of any particular skin or coat condition. Consult a veterinarian if in doubt about a particular skin or coat condition.
For Dogs and Cats: This shampoo is highly concentrated and should be diluted with water before use. For maximum oatmeal benefit, professional groomers mix one part Oat-A-Coat to 6 parts warm water (20 oz. shampoo per gallon, or 160 mL per liter). Add more shampoo for an extra cleaning boost, or use as high as 12:1 for everyday use. (10 oz. shampoo per gallon, or 80 mL per liter).
For best results, use lukewarm water to thoroughly wet the petís skin and coat. Generously apply the diluted shampoo to the pet and work up a good lather, massaging the shampoo into the coat. Thoroughly rinse all shampoo from the coat with warm water until none remains on the pet.
For Horses: There are several ways to use this shampoo on a horse. One method is to add four ounces of shampoo to a large pail full of lukewarm water and mix well to create a rich lather. You can add more shampoo to the pail for greater lather or to bathe an especially dirty horse, or you can use it full strength to bathe for ground in dirt.
For best results, thoroughly wet the horse down to the skin. Sponge the shampoo mixture onto the coat and massage the hair and skin, lifting out the dirt and dead skin cells using a brush, currycomb or mitt. Work the shampoo through the mane and tail. As you bathe the horse, keep the sudsy parts wet so that the shampoo doesnít dry onto the skin. Use clean running water to thoroughly rinse all shampoo from the coat and skin. Rinse from the top to the bottom until no more shampoo remains on the horse.
Oat-A-Coat contains suspended colloidal oatmeal particles that will eventually sink to the bottom of the container. To ensure that you are getting the full amount of oatmeal with each bath, it is important that you shake the shampoo concentrate before preparing your dilutions. It is also important that you resuspend the oatmeal in your dilutions. Before each use, gently swirl the diluted shampoo to uniformity.
